About
Meet Keith.
IPET-qualified dog groomer, ex-lawyer, and the only person your dog will see during a groom at Keith's K9 Care. One dog. One groomer. One quiet room.
The story
From the law to the grooming table.
For decades, Keith worked in law — meticulous, careful, used to getting the details right under pressure. It's the kind of work that teaches you to listen properly before you act. Two qualities, it turns out, that translate unusually well to dog grooming.
During lockdown, Keith and his wife welcomed two golden retriever brothers — Ringo and Rolo — into their lives. What followed was a crash course in just how much mischief two exuberant retrievers can find: mud, puddles, unidentifiable countryside discoveries, and more baths than anyone had bargained for.
Somewhere in all that, Keith discovered he loved the grooming process — the calm of it, the care, the transformation at the end. He went on to qualify with the IPET Network at Mrs B's Grooming Academy in Leeds, where his trainers noted his natural ability to put dogs at ease. (It turns out a courtroom voice, used gently, is also a very good "stay still while I do your nails" voice.)
Keith brings the same professionalism and attention to detail to every groom that he has applied throughout his working life. Whether it's a cockapoo's first groom, a senior schnauzer who's a bit grumpy about clippers, or a retriever who's been swimming again — your dog is in safe, experienced hands.
Qualifications & insurance
Properly trained. Properly insured.
Training
IPET Network qualified
Keith completed his iPET Network qualification at Mrs B's Grooming Academy in Leeds — one of West Yorkshire's most respected practical training schools. The iPET Network is an Ofqual-regulated awarding body for the UK pet industry; certificates aren't pieces of paper, they're verifiable.
Insurance
Fully insured
Public liability and care, custody & control cover for every dog in the salon. Happy to share certificate details on request before your first booking.
The salon
A home, not a clinic.
The salon is a fully equipped, purpose-built converted garage at our home in Hall Green — a quiet street between Newmillerdam and Chapelthorpe. No barking neighbours. No queue. Your dog gets the whole room.
How we work
Calm pace. Clear pricing. No surprises.
One dog at a time
No kennel, no shared dryer noise, no dogs barking through the wall. Your dog has Keith's full attention from arrival to handover.
Honest about coats
If a coat is heavily matted, the kindest thing is sometimes a fresh start. We'll talk you through it before we pick up the clippers.
Pace led by the dog
Nervous dogs and first-time puppies get breaks, treats, and as much sniff-around time as they need. The bill reflects the real time, but never a surprise.
